Plan for today: Metro to Park Arvi and Comuna 13
We started the day with a walk to the Estadio Metro station with a plan to ride the Metro to Parque Arvi.
To get to the park by Metro is actually very simple. You work your way to the A line heading north to Niquía. Get off at the Acevedo station then look for the K line cable car. Don’t worry, you cant miss it. Here is a good map of the Metro.
The K line cable car has a few stops before it ends at the Santo Domingo Station. From there go over and get on the L line to Arvi. You will have to pay a separate fare for this ($12,500.00COP ~ $3.17USD). To be honest we never quite figured out the fare structure for the Metro because of our language deficiencies, but, rest assured its fairly cheap.
The park is a huge place where you could spend several days hiking. There is actually a smaller park inside Arvi called Comfenalco. Since we had limited time we hopped on the free bus and visited the smaller park.
Leaving Park Arvi we decided to get off and check out the Santo Domingo station neighborhood.
At first glance it looked a little questionable, but we found it to be a vibrant family oriented place. Even though we stood out and received a few curious stares, the people were overall very friendly and polite.
We decided on getting something to eat so we ordered a fried chicken combo lunch and a mango milkshake from this chicken place. Both were quite tasty.
Next we got back on the Metro and headed to the other side of town with Comuna 13 as our destination. To get there take the B line east to San Javier station. Get off and get on the J line cable car and ride it to the top. This section of Medellin has had a very tumultuous past but lately has re invented itself into a vibrant and relatively safe place.
After a long day we headed home. On our walk from the station we couldn’t pass up getting some food from one of the ever present street vendors. We had the Especial and, as usual, it was super cheap and reasonably good.
